Keynote: Elizabeth Fassman

Senior Lecturer, University of Auckland

Elizabeth Fassman, PhD came to New Zealand in 2004 by way of Duke University and the University of Virginia, where she obtained undergraduate, ME and PhD degrees in Civil and Environmental Engineering followed by two years in engineering consulting. Elizabeth's research focuses on fieldscale evaluation of stormwater management devices, with particular emphasis on emerging "low impact" and green infrastructure technologies for receiving water protection.

Elizabeth's current research projects strive to evaluate and adapt innovative low impact development (LID) technologies to Auckland's unique environment through field research on full scale living roofs (aka green roofs), permeable pavement, bioretention (rain gardens), swale systems, constructed wetlands and proprietary devices. Field studies include evaluation of both urban hydrology and runoff water quality (pollutant) control.
