34th Hydrology and Water Resources Symposium
The 34th Hydrology and Water Resources Symposium has now successfully completed with the next Symposia scheduled for Perth. The 35th Symposium will commence with optional workshops on Monday 17 February 2014, while the main Symposium will run from Tuesday 18 to Thursday 21 February 2014, inclusive. An optional two day tour on Friday 22 and Saturday 23 February will round out the full week of information exchange.
Welcome Letter from the LOC Chair
On behalf of the Organising Committee, I am delighted to welcome you to Sydney for the 34th Hydrology and Water Resources Symposium, "HWRS2012".
HWRS2012 has attracted a diverse range of high quality podium and poster presentations. Over the three days of the symposium, delegates will report on progress made understanding the major uncertainties facing water resources managers in the coming decades and on insights dealing with these challenges. The contributing authors are to be commended for the technical excellence of their papers and for their willingness to share their knowledge and expertise with fellow professionals.
The Symposium Proceedings compile 196 papers that we trust will provide a lasting record of the Symposium's contribution to the science and practice of hydrology and water resources engineering and management.
Paper topics cover a broad and diverse range of issues including:
- Climate Variability and Change
- Quantifying and Managing Uncertainty in Estimates
- Design Rainfalls
- Flood and Precipitation Extremes
- Water Resource Management
- Flood Modelling and Forecasting
- Operational Hydrology
- Land-Use and Climate Change Impacts on Hydrology
- Hydrological Modelling
- River Hydraulics and Infrastructure
- Rainwater Tanks and Sustainability
- Groundwater and Surface Water Interactions
- Urban Hydrology
- Water Resource Modelling
- Australian Rainfall and Runoff
- Water Quality and River Health
- Water Quality and Sediment Dynamics
- Water Demand
- Stochastic Hydrology
In addition to this, three eminent speakers have kindly accepted the organising committee's invitation to present keynote addresses.
The technical committee is extremely grateful to the large number of reviewers who assisted the committee in reviewing the papers. The large amount of time spent in this process has been of great benefit to all the authors. I am also grateful for the support of our host Engineers Australia and the sponsors, without whom a Symposium such as this could not be successfully staged.
If you are a visitor to Sydney, I know you will enjoy your time in our city and hope you take the opportunity to discover the city's charm and our magnificent harbour and beaches.
Thank you for attending. We look forward to meeting you during the HWRS 2012 Symposium.
